This was second and final day riding along the Cabot Trail.  Most of the photos in this post were made along the north/east section of Cape Breton Island.  There was more to see, but that old enemy of mine, time, was afoot.  I had to start making my way back home to Ajax, Ontario.   I decided to call it a day in the historic town of Pictou, the so-called birthplace of New Scotland. It was here where the first wave of Scottish immigrants landed in 1773 on the Hector.  There is a replica of this famous ship anchored in The Hector Heritage Quay.  Pictou’s early settlers, fuelled by the nearby coal deposits and lumber mills, turned the town into an important shipbuilding centre.  During the mid-1800’s the harbour was brimming with sailing ships.

Like many small Atlantic towns, one’s options to find a decent supper after 8 PM is limited.  I entered some local restaurants only to find they close at 8 and the one place that was still open was crowded to the rafters, noisy and a local band was playing.  Not in the mood for crowds and noise, I grabbed some snacks from a local convenience store and called it day.  I used my spare time in the early evening to edit some of the photos in the following gallery.

The beautiful Cabot Trail beckons me for another visit and I can’t wait to see it again and again 🙂
