July 18, 2021 – Hopewell Rocks Revisited

This is my fourth time experiencing Hopewell Rocks and it never gets old.  The only difference this time around is I travelled on four wheels instead of two.  Melissa and I took a two day road trip to Moncton and I suggested we visit the Bay of Fundy since she’s never seen it.

The Bay of Fundy is best known as having the highest tides in the world.  The Bay of Fundy’s unique shape amplifies the tides to as much as 16 m (56 feet), the height of a 5-storey building.  It is home to a number whale species and seabirds.  Its shores contain fossils from the Triassic age and more ancient fossils showing evidence of the evolution of life.

Hopewell Rocks Park is perhaps the Bay of Fundy’s most visited attraction. The Hopewell Rocks, also called the Flowerpots Rocks or simply The Rocks, are rock formations caused by tidal erosion in The Hopewell Rocks Ocean Tidal Exploration Site in New Brunswick.  Twice a day the tides roll in or recede.  When the tide is out, as seen in these photos, one can literally walk on the ocean floor.  When the tide rolls in, these rock formations are submerged up to a height of 15 m (50 feet)  and tourists rent kayaks to explore the unique rock formations.
