Oct 3, 2021 – Shorebirds on Tracadie Bay, PEI.

This was the last day of our PEI staycation.  Melissa and I spent a nice evening at one of our cottages and before we headed back home, we took a few minutes to check out the shore of Tracadie Bay with the aim to photograph birds.  We spotted a few Greater Yellowlegs, Plovers and Great Blue Herons.

The greater yellowlegs and plovers were foraging on the beach – which is a two minute walk from the cottage.  Although the greater yellowlegs is much larger shorebird than a plover, they are far more skittish and easily perturbed by humans.  It was easier to photograph the plovers since they allowed me to come much closer and that’s a good thing since they are relatively small birds.

The Great Blue Herons were spotted in number at Tracadie Harbour.  Most of the herons were too far away to grab some decent photos and knee deep waters in the surrounding marsh deterred me from walking closer.  I still managed to grab a few shots, albeit heavily cropped.
