Sept 14, 2021 – Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

Scratch one more item off the bucket list: explore Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  As many Canadians know, the picturesque town of Lunenburg is the permanent home of the Bluenose II Schooner.  It is 1963 built replica of the well-known speed record breaking Bluenose sailing ship, built in 1921, featured on the back of our dimes.  Unfortunately, the Bluenose II was not in port during my visit, but no matter, the town has its own charms and vibrant colours to enjoy.

Lunenburg is one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Seventy percent of the original colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. UNESCO considers the site the best example of planned British colonial settlement in North America, as it retains its original layout and appearance of the 1800s, including local wooden vernacular architecture.

This was day one of a motorcycle road trip that took me back on the Cabot Trail and that will be the subject of my next few posts.
