Sept 18, 2021 – Aulds Cove and Ferry to PEI

After motorcycling through Nova Scotia for the last four days, the time had come to make my way back home to Prince Edward Island.  It was a quite the foggy morning in Aulds Cove and after breakfast, most of the fog lifted and I got on the Harley to make my way to Caribou, NS.  The ride was a relatively brief one lasting just over an hour.

I decided to take the ferry from Caribou, NS to Wood Island, PE.  Not only is the one way trip from NS to PE free, it was also my first time taking the ferry.  Returning home this way from Aulds Cove is faster than having to backtrack through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to cross over the Confederation Bridge to PEI.  Moreover, New Brunswick had declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19 and that meant applying for a special pass to enter the Province.  It was much easier to return from Nova Scotia where no such condition exists.  I actually enjoyed taking the ferry and relaxing over the 75 minute long crossing.

When I got home, our alexandrine parrot, Theo, nearly lost his mind when he heard the Harley pull into the garage.  He missed me quite a bit during the last four days and I missed him as well as the family.  As soon as I entered the house he would not leave my shoulder and stayed there most of the day.  Melissa purchased an excellent dry aged steak from Mike’s Market in Charlottetown.  I grilled it over hardwood charcoal and enjoyed it with a good bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape along with a layered salad she made with tomatoes, cucumbers and onions from our garden – it was quite the feast.

I rode over 1680 kms during the last four days and can’t wait to do it all over again.
