West Point Lighthouse at Cedar Dunes Provincial Park, PEI

Recently I took a motorcycle ride out to the West Point Lighthouse Inn and Museum on the shores of Cedar Dunes Park in Prince Edward Island.  The park is located on the southwest shore of the island and is close O’Leary.

It is PEI’s tallest lighthouse standing at 21 metres (69 feet) and is also known for its unique tapered square shape and black and white striped paint.  Built in 1875, put into operation in 1876 and manned until 1963 when its second keeper, who lived in the attached dwelling, retired.  Today the lantern operates electrically. In 1987, the inn was established by the West Point Development Corporation.  In 2011, the inn was revamped with further accommodations being added and updated.
